The first ever South Asian dance competition at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre will take place on Saturday 1st October at 7pm.
Just Naach means ‘Just Dance’ and showcases incredible talent in Wolverhampton and the Black Country with support from the theatre’s South Asian ambassadors.
A thrilling evening for all involved. Audiences will cheer for their favourite acts and we will find out who will be crowned Wolverhampton’s first South Asian Dance champion!
Bollywood, Bhangra, Regional Folk, Indian Classical and South Asian Fusion are just some of the styles that make up the wonderful world of South Asian Dance. The winning performer or group will win the prestigious Just Naach Trophy and win 50 tickets to the pantomime Aladdin at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre in December.
Associate Director for Audiences & Development at the Grand Theatre, Vicky Price said; “Wolverhampton has a vibrant culture and at the Grand Theatre we celebrate the talents of our local communities. We look forward to showcasing the best in South Asian Dance from Wolverhampton and Black Country talent in the inaugural event, Just Naach. We are excited to welcome performers and audiences, new and existing, to Grand Theatre this October.” On the evening, a range of local dynamic dance acts will compete to be crowned Wolverhampton’s first South Asian Dance Champion, Jodi Dancers, Colton Hills Community School, Avneet Kaur, Dancing Queens, Ultimate Bangra, Bollywood Dreams Dance, Aaja Nachle Let’s Dance and Sohniya Punjabna Group. The show will open with Wolverhampton’s own super popular group Back2Back Dancers described as “a band of brothers on a mission to fearlessly explore the depths of our imagination and artistic purpose” through dance. The band have performed nationally on hit shows like the West End Bhangra Musical and in hundreds of Panjabi music videos. The event is hosted by BBC’s Qasa Alom. The exciting panel of judges on the night are Artistic Director of award-winning Jaivant Patel Dance – Jaivant Patel, Director of Operations and Development at Creative Black Country Sajida Carr, Freelance Broadcaster Satnam Rana and Radio XL Presenter, Manpreet Darroch.
